Welcoming Dylan as MCG's New Waterwatch Coordinator and Celebrating Jed's Achievements

MCG is very pleased to welcome our new Waterwatch Coordinator, Dylan! This marks a new chapter for our Waterwatch program, and we are delighted to have Dylan join the MCG team. At the same time, we want to recognize the incredible contributions of our previous coordinator, Jed, who set high standards during his time with us.

Dylan comes to MCG with experience of and a passion for water conservation. With qualifications in Conservation and Ecosystem Management and four years of volunteering with our previous coordinator, he is a perfect fit for our Waterwatch program. Dylan is eager to begin his new role, bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm. He aims to strengthen our relationships with volunteers and the wider community through education and awareness raising activities, ensuring everyone feels they can contribute to the health of our waterways.

As we celebrate Dylan's arrival, it is important to highlight the tremendous achievements of Jed in his role as Waterwatch Coordinator. Jed has strengthened the reach of the Waterwatch program by better integrating it into other MCG program activities. His encyclopedic knowledge of native plants and animals ensured that Platypus month was always a popular success, the workshops he conducted and written material he produced were always exciting and inspirational. His ability to connect with people and share his passion for conservation has created a lasting impact. As he embarks on an exciting new career move, we wish him every success in his future endeavors. His legacy will continue to inspire us all.

Dylan is keen to build upon Jed's legacy, introducing new immersive and sensory-based experiences to engage volunteers and raise awareness about the importance of protecting our waterways. The involvement of MCG members, Waterwatch volunteers and the wider community is crucial to our programs' success. Dylan encourages everyone to participate in upcoming events, and we are always looking for new water monitoring volunteers. Together, we can enhance water conservation efforts and ensure our local waterways thrive.

Here’s to new beginnings and the ongoing journey of making a difference in our community!

Acknowledgement of Country

The Molonglo catchment, crossing the NSW/ACT border, overlaps with a mix of traditional Aboriginal cultural boundaries and lines of connection, and statutory Aboriginal Land Council boundaries. The history of Aboriginal people is a living history and, in the present day, the NSW region is defined by Ngunawal traditional boundaries (spelt Ngunnawal by some clan groups and the ACT Government), traditional boundaries of the Gundungurra, Dharawal, Yuin, Ngarigo Aboriginal communities and the statutory boundaries of the Ngambri Aboriginal Land Council. In the ACT there are currently four Representative Aboriginal Organisations – Buru Ngunawal Aboriginal Corporation, Mirrabee, King Brown Tribal Group, and Ngarigo Currawong Clan. We acknowledge all Aboriginal custodians of this region. We acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life that is within and around the Molonglo catchment.
